EB HOPE and South Shore Hospital Partner For Innovative Narcan Training Opportunity For First Responders and General Public
The following is a joint press release from EB HOPE and the South Shore Hospital. Click here for the full release and images.
EAST BRIDGEWATER –EB HOPE (East Bridgewater Help, Outreach, Prevention, Education) and South Shore Hospital are partnering to provide an innovative Narcan Training for Police, EMS personnel and citizens who have family members or loved ones suffering from Opioid Substance Use Disorders.
South Shore Hospital’s EMS Mobile Simulation Laboratory, which was generously donated by Best Chevrolet, will be posted all day long on Thursday, August 4th at EB HOPE’s Drop-In Center at the East Bridgewater Community Covenant Church, 400 Pleasant Street, East Bridgewater.
The August 4th training will be offered to local first responders during the day, and then the general public will be invited to the drop in for instruction on nasal Narcan from 5 to 9 p.m. In addition to the Narcan training, visitors will also be able to go inside the Drop-In Center and meet with more than 20 substance use disorder treatment and recovery organizations which have partnered with EB HOPE.
South Shore Hospital’s Mobile SimLab is designed with a manikin “patient” who has actual breathing and body control functions to simulate an actual overdose victim. South Shore Hospital’s trained paramedic professionals are able to control the manikin so trainees must not only recognize the symptoms of the overdose, but also learn to react to the “patient’s” body signals prior to administering nasal Narcan. The training sessions are recorded with instant video playback for debriefing and professional instruction of the entire “simulated overdose Narcan deployment.”
The following police departments, which already collaborate with East Bridgewater on the opioid crisis, have been invited to attend this special training: West Bridgewater; Bridgewater; Whitman; Bridgewater State University; Hanson; Halifax; Rockland; Abington; Plymouth; Carver; and Middleboro.
