East Bridgewater Police to Host Student Police Academy
EAST BRIDGEWATER – Chief Scott Allen is pleased to announce that the East Bridgewater Police Department is accepting applicants for their Student Police Academy, which launches next week.
The six-week citizen’s police academy will begin on Oct. 6, with classes held every Thursday from 6-8 p.m. in the Town Hall Conference Room (175 Central St.). Participants will learn about what officers and dispatchers do on a day-to-day basis with interactive activities. Topics/classes include:
- Community Policing
- Tour of the station and the dispatch room
- New recruit training
- Officer safety
- Motor vehicle law
- Domestic violence
- D.A.R.E program
- Information on frauds/scams
- Explanations on use of force and Tasers
- Active shooter training
- Drunk driving
- “Shoot don’t shoot” patrol operations
This is the second Student Police Academy. The police department routinely conducts similar courses for adults and seniors, the next of which will be held in the spring of 2017.
“Citizen police academies are one of the best ways East Bridgewater officers can educate residents about how the department works and how they can best prepare for any situation,” Chief Allen said. “We encourage all community members to sign up and complete this course – whether it’s this student academy, or the adult academy offered next season.”
The Student Police Academy is open to all junior high and high school students in East Bridgewater. Those interested in attending the should contact Sgt. Steven Brown or Officer Mark Harvey at 508-378-7223.
