East Bridgewater Police Receive Grant to Enforce Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Laws
EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Scott Allen is pleased to announce that the East Bridgewater Police Department has received a grant that will enable to it increase enforcement and raise awareness of pedestrian and bicycle safety laws.
The grant from the Highway Division of the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security will give the East Bridgewater Police Department the additional funding they need to step up patrols in high traffic areas in order to raise awareness among drivers about the presence of cyclists and pedestrians in crosswalks.
“Our main concern is ensuring that everyone remains safe, which we can do through a dedicated effort to educate drivers and raise awareness,” Chief Allen said. “We want drivers to remain cognizant of the presence of pedestrians and cyclists, especially near school zones, and take care to share the road.”
Over 800 people died walking on or near Massachusetts roads between 2005 and 2015.
