WEB Major Crimes and Drug Task Force & Whitman Police Department Press Release
Whitman-During the past two months, Detectives assigned to the WEB Task force have been
investigating claims that a male party was selling MDMA also known as “MOLLY”, Marijuana
and other narcotics in and around Whitman and the surrounding communities. Throughout the
course of this investigation Detectives developed probable cause that one such individual, later
identified as Cole McCarthy 19 years of age, was arranging sales from the confines of his
residence, located at #7 Patriot Lane in Whitman, as well has his vehicle to make narcotics
deliveries and sales. Upon developing probable cause that Mr. McCarthy was involved in
narcotics distribution, WEB Detectives applied for and were granted two search warrants, one
for the residence and a second search warrant for Mr. McCarthy’s vehicle.
Methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) is a synthetic drug that alters mood and
perception (awareness of surrounding objects and conditions). It is chemically similar to both
stimulants and hallucinogens, producing feelings of increased energy, pleasure, emotional
warmth, and distorted sensory and time perception. MDMA was initially popular in the nightclub
scene and at all-night dance parties (“raves”), but the drug now affects a broader range of people
who more commonly call the drug Ecstasy or Molly.
At approximately 5 pm on June 22, 2018, WEB Task Force Detectives with the
assistance of Whitman Police Officers, mobilized to execute the two search warrants. Detectives
observed Mr. McCarthy quickly exit his home, get in his vehicle and leave the property.
Detectives attempted to stop Mr. McCarthy, who in an attempt to flee, drove at and nearly struck
one WEB Detective who had to jump out of the way of the vehicle. Whitman cruisers as well as
unmarked police vehicles were able to stop Mr. McCarthy shortly up the street from his home.
At the conclusion of both search warrants Mr. McCarthy was placed under arrest and
transported back to the Whitman Police Department to be booked and processed where he is
being held on $1,040 cash bail. The Detective who was nearly struck suffered no injuries and
declined medical treatment. At the completion of the search warrants, Detectives seized various
items associated with Narcotics distribution, packaging material, scales and cutting agents
commonly associated with MDMA. In addition to drug packaging and associated effects
Detectives also seized:
Approximately 5.5 Lbs of Marijuana
Approximately 20 Grams of MDMA
Approximately $9,900 in US currency
Illegal Prescription Pills
The WEB task force is a collaborative effort of the five agencies to proactively
investigate narcotics crimes and other major crimes that plague our communities.
