East Bridgewater-Early on Wednesday morning, at approximately 1:03 am, East Bridgewater Patrol Officer Joshua DeJesus attempted to stop a vehicle on Route 18, Bedford Street, near the center of town. The vehicle’s license plate had been entered in the criminal justice information system as a stolen vehicle from the town of Raynham. The vehicle fled and evaded Officer DeJesus, traveling down Route 18 onto Union Street, easterly on Union Street before crashing into a rock wall located on Walnut Street. The operator fled the crashed vehicle on foot. Additional East Bridgewater Police units, along with mutual aid from Whitman, West Bridgewater and the State Police attempted to track the operator behind homes along Walnut Street and Washington Street.
Officers were unable to locate the suspect and cleared the search around 4:00 am this morning. Officers were able to identify the operator, including locating identification and other information at the crashed vehicle scene. This morning, Officer DeJesus applied for and was issued an arrest warrant for the suspect from Brockton District Court, for multiple charges, including Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop for a Police officer, Receiving Stolen Property Under $1,200.00, Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle, among other offenses.
During their investigation at the crash scene, officer’s located property, including a credit card, that had been stolen during a recent car and a house break that on Ashley Drive in East Bridgewater.
Throughout the morning, East Bridgewater officers and detectives, including West Bridgewater Detectives from the WEB Task Force assisted in locating the suspect, identified as Jamar Reverdes, age 18, #924 Warren Ave, Brockton. During their investigation, investigators learned of several East Bridgewater addresses in town in which Mr Reverdes was known to visit.
Shortly after 2:00 pm, Detectives were checking for Mr Reverdes at a North Central Street address near the center of town, when they observed Mr Reverdes flee the house on foot towards Keith Place. After a brief foot pursuit, East Bridgewater’s newest officer, Patrick O’Brien, pursued Mr Reverdes through a yard where he caught up to him, placing him under arrest.
Mr Reverdes was transported back to the station, where he was booked and processed on the following charges;
- Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Failure to Stop for a Police officer
- Receiving Stolen Property Under $1,200.00
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage
- Marked Lanes Violation
- Fail to Signal Vehicle for Turn
- Malicious Destruction of Property Under $1,200
- Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle
- Speeding
Bail was set for Mr Reverdes at $1,540.00. Mr Reverdes was due to be arraigned on Thursday at Brockton District Court.
Officer DeJesus and Officer Patrick O’Brien, both rookie officers did an outstanding job throughout this investigation and were assisted by EBPD Detective David Perrault, Officers Richard Eldredge, Tallitha Connor, Alton Voisine, Officer Antonio Ferreira, Sgt Michael Jenkins, West Bridgewater K9 Officer Richard Flaherty, and WBPD Detectives Todd Cantalupo and Sean Deveilly.
All Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
