EAST BRIDGEWATER — Town Administrator Brian S. Noble and Board of Health Chairman Peter P. Spagone, Jr. would like provide residents with an update on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in East Bridgewater.
There have been 75 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in East Bridgewater. Of those positive cases, there have been five deaths. Thirteen people have recovered from COVID-19 and more than 25 people have been released from self-quarantine.
Town officials would like to express their condolences to the families and loved ones of those who have died from the disease. Officials are fervently monitoring the situation in town and are closely following the latest guidelines from federal, state and local health officials.
A large number of the Town’s positive cases are residents of the Sachem Center for Health and Rehabilitation. Sachem administrators and employees have worked hard to contain the virus, isolating all positive patients and monitoring all contacts, as well as having all positive and symptomatic staff quarantine at home.
Sachem administrators are updating the East Bridgewater Board of Health daily and are following all guidance and directives provided by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Family members with questions or concerns are welcome to contact the EB Board of Health at 508-378-1612.
In order to protect the residents’ medical privacy rights, no additional information will be disclosed.
Town officials understand that Easter is a special day for many East Bridgewater families and staying home will not be easy. The Town is reminding residents that Governor Charlie Baker’s stay-at-home advisory is still in effect and gatherings should be limited to the people that reside in your home.
Social Distancing
All residents are advised to continue to stay home in order to curb the spread of this deadly virus. Residents may continue to conduct essential activities such as grocery shopping or picking up medication.
It is recommended that if you go to the grocery store or pharmacy that you wear a face mask or covering and rubber gloves.
All residents are also encouraged to continue to practice aggressive social distancing — maintaining a distance of approximately 6 feet from other people — and appropriate personal hygiene.
Prevention Tips
Local, state and federal health officials are encouraging residents to take the following precautions to prevent infectious diseases, such as the flu and COVID-19, from spreading:
- For a minimum of 20 seconds, wash your hands frequently with soap and hot water
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands
- Avoid close contact with those who are sick
- Use a tissue to cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, then throw the tissue away and wash your hands.
- Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces
