East Bridgewater Hires Ten New Police Officers

Three Full-Time, Seven Part-Time Officers Fill Department Vacancies

EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Scott Allen is pleased to announce that the East Bridgewater Police Department has hired three full-time officers and seven Permanent Intermittent Police Officers (part-time) to fill their ranks in light of several openings in the department due to retirements and officer’s leaving the department through attrition over the past year.

Full-time officers John Smith and Michael Curtin began working in the patrol division on July 1. Officer Barry King will begin working full-time when he enters the police academy in late October. All three officers were hired from the EBPD Permanent Intermittent Police Officer ranks. Officers Smith and Curtin also served as EBPD civilian dispatchers, while Officer King previously worked as an auxiliary police officer for the Whitman Police Department.

All three full-time appointments replace retiring officers or vacant positions within the department. This round of hiring’s will bring the department back to its budgeted number of 21 full-time officers.

East Bridgewater Police also hired seven new Permanent Intermittent Police Officers to fill the recent promotions and maintain the part-time police staff. As a civil service department, East Bridgewater has traditionally hired their full-time officers from the existing Permanent Intermittent Police Officer ranks. This part-time officer training allows the department the opportunity to evaluate and assess their officers prior to full-time promotion, as well as to supplement their full-time staffing needs.

The following Permanent Intermittent Police Officers were recently appointed and sworn in by Town Clerk Dina Livinston: Michael Randall, Timothy Moar, Joshua Dejesus, Cecelia Cacciatore, Cory McKeever, Evan Dun and Brian Dennehy.

“I am proud to welcome so many new officers and rising officers to our department,” Chief Allen said. “Each one of these men and women have shown incredible dedication to the East Bridgewater Police Department thus far, and we look forward to adding their service to our growing department.”
