East Bridgewater Police and Fire Departments Hold Annual 9/11 Memorial Service

EAST BRIDGEWATER — The East Bridgewater Police and Fire Departments held a memorial service today in honor of the victims of 9/11 and in particular, East Bridgewater native and Secret Service Master Officer Craig Miller who died in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center while rendering aid.

The memorial, originally dedicated on Sept. 11, 2016, was built in honor of Secret Service Master Officer Miller. The memorial includes a metal beam from the World Trade Center wreckage.  Officials decided to continue the tradition annually with a memorial ceremony.

The memorial was built through the volunteer efforts of several East Bridgewater residents, including Joel Thomas, Robert DiFazio, Tim Sands, the Kiwanis Club and many other volunteers.

At this year’s ceremony, resident Robert DiFazio and his family dedicated a new flag pole and flag to the memorial site.

Secret Service Master Officer Miller’s family was present this year for the ceremony and then attended the annual 9/11 State House memorial service in Boston.

“This memorial serves as a reminder of the personal connection our community has to that day and we are honored that Secret Service Master Officer Miller’s family were able to join us at the ceremony this year,” Chief Allen said.

“We are proud to host this service each year in honor of Secret Service Master Officer Miller and all of the victims of 9/11,” Chief Harhen said. “We encourage everyone to take a few moments on Sept. 11 to remember and honor those who lost their lives that day.”

Any questions about the event can be directed to East Bridgewater Police at 508-378-7223 or East Bridgewater Fire at 508-378-2071.
