East Bridgewater Police and Fire Departments To Host Annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony

EAST BRIDGEWATER — Police Chief Paul O’Brien and Fire Chief Timothy Harhen would like to invite the public to attend the Town’s annual 9/11 memorial ceremony at the East Bridgewater 9/11 Memorial site.

WHEN:

Sunday, Sept. 11 at 8:45 a.m. The ceremony is expected to last approximately 20 minutes.

WHERE:

East Bridgewater Memorial site, 175 Central St.

WHAT:

The East Bridgewater Police and Fire Departments will host the memorial service in honor of the victims of 9/11. In particular, the ceremony will honor East Bridgewater native and Secret Service Master Special Officer Craig Miller, who died in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001.

The memorial was initially dedicated on Sept. 11, 2016. It was built as a community project through the Kiwanis Club of East Bridgewater and the volunteer efforts of many residents in town, including Joel Thomas, Tim Sands, the late Bob DiFazio, and many others. Retired Police Chief Scott Allen and Fire Chief Harhan stated at the original dedication that every year thereafter there would be a memorial service on Sept. 11 to honor the victims of 9/11 and Master Special Officer Miller.

East Bridgewater Community Access Media will be recording the ceremony to air on local cable programming at a later date and will also make the recording available on demand.

“For the past six years, the East Bridgewater Fire and Police Departments have led a short, but extremely important memorial service at the East Bridgewater 9/11 Memorial site,” Chief Harhen said. “We must never forget the lives of those lost on that fateful day, and in particular East Bridgewater’s own, Secret Service Master Special Officer Craig Miller.”

The entire East Bridgewater community is invited to attend.

“Fire Chief Harhen and I encourage all those who are interested to pay their respects at this very special event,” Chief O’Brien said. “The Town of East Bridgewater has been supportive of this Memorial since the beginning and we will continue to hold this ceremony each year as we remember Officer Miller’s bravery and selflessness as well as honor all of the lives lost.”
