East Bridgewater Police Arrest and Charge Brockton Man on Drug Charges Following Month-Long Investigation

EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Paul O’Brien reports that East Bridgewater Police, in collaboration with the FBI Boston Division’s Metro Boston Gang Task Force, arrested a Brockton man this week on drug charges following a month-long investigation.

JAVIER OTERO, AGE 25, of BROCKTON, was arrested and charged with:

  • Trafficking in Over 100 Grams of Fentanyl
  • Possession of a Class C substance (hallucinogenic mushrooms)
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class D substance (marijuana)

The East Bridgewater Police Department is a member of FBI Boston’s Metro Boston Gang Task Force. The task force’s responsibility is to identify and disrupt violent gangs and drug traffickers in the Metro Boston area, including the cities of Boston and Brockton.

On Tuesday, Oct. 18, East Bridgewater Police Detective David Perrault, along with members of the FBI Metro Boston Gang Task Force and the Norton Police Department, executed three search warrants – in East Bridgewater, Brockton and Norton – after a month-long investigation. The searches led to the seizure of 194 grams of fentanyl, 1 ounce of hallucinogenic mushrooms, 206 grams of marijuana, 11 grams of cocaine, $24,310, a hand pill press, two digital scales and pieces of expensive jewelry.

As a result of the searches, OTERO was placed under arrest and transported to the East Bridgewater Police Department to be booked. Due to the items seized from both Brockton and Norton, charges will be issued in two different district courts. OTERO faces the charges listed above out of Brockton District Court.

Any remaining charges are pending issuance out of Bristol County.

“I commend the thorough investigation by Detective Perrault, members of the FBI’s Metro Boston Gang Task Force and our partners in neighboring departments,” Chief O’Brien said. “Their effective cooperation and execution led to not only the arrest of this individual but also the seizure of a substantial amount of narcotics that will not make their way into our communities.”

OTERO was arraigned on Oct. 19 in Brockton District Court and held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing set for Oct. 25.

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
