East Bridgewater Police Investigating Rollover Crash at YMCA Involving Dump Truck

EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Scott Allen reports that the East Bridgewater Police Department is investigating a crash where a dump truck rolled over and struck multiple parked vehicles at the Old Colony YMCA Monday night.

At approximately 5 p.m., East Bridgewater Police received a report of a crash at the YMCA, 635 Plymouth St.

Upon arrival, a dump truck was on its side in the parking lot near the entrance of the YMCA and significant damage had been done to five parked vehicles. None of the parked vehicles were occupied at the time.

The truck was hauling a full load of sand when the crash occurred.

The driver of the truck, a man in his 50s, was not injured, but was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

While the cause of the crash is currently under investigation, the initial investigation indicates that the truck driver had been driving down Plymouth Street when the vehicle in front of him stopped. The driver was unable to stop the truck and swerved off the side of the road. The truck struck the sign at the entrance of the YMCA parking lot and a utility pole.

No one was injured in the incident. The YMCA was open at the time and had several patrons inside.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the East Bridgewater Police at 508-378-7223.
