East Bridgewater Police Make 3 Drunk Driving Arrests Over the Weekend

East Bridgewater-The East Bridgewater Police Department arrested three individuals over the weekend for suspicion of Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol in separate incidents.

East Bridgewater Police recently announced that increased Impaired Driving Patrols would be in effect throughout the holiday season. The department recently received an Impaired Driving Enforcement grant funded by the state through the Executive Office of Public Safety.

On Saturday night, shortly before midnight, Officer Michael Randall was working an Impaired Driving grant patrol shift when he observed a motor vehicle operating erratically at the intersection of Oak and Franklin Streets. After conducting a motor vehicle stop on Oak Street he believed the operator to be intoxicated. The individual, Mr Richard Sperrazza, age 34 of Bridgewater was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol (OUI), a Second Offense, as well as a Marked Lanes violation, Speeding, and Failure to inspect Motor Vehicle.

Cash bail was set for Mr Sperrazza at $40.00. He was released early Sunday morning with a court arraignment scheduled for Brockton District Court on Monday morning.

During the same shift, shortly after Mr Sperrazza’s arrest, at approximately 2:00 am Officer Joshua DeJesus, observed another vehicle operating erratically on Union Street. After conducting a motor vehicle stop, the operator, James Dubeau, age 28, #577 Union Street of East Bridgewater was arrested and charged for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, along with Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop for Police, Speeding, Marked Lane Violation, and Operating an Unregistered and Uninsured Motor Vehicle.

Officer DeJesus had observed Mr Dubeau’s vehicle approaching his cruiser from the opposite direction on Union Street, crossing the center line and almost striking his cruiser head-on. Officer DeJesus activated his cruiser’s blue lights and siren and after Mr Dubeau’s vehicle accelerated to approximately 55 mph on Union Street, the vehicle stopped.

Mr Dubeau was booked and processed at the EBPD station. Cash bail was set at $40.00. Mr Dubeau was bailed later Sunday morning and will arraigned Monday morning at Brockton District Court.

On Sunday evening, shortly after 5:30 pm, a third person was arrested for OUI after a single vehicle crash was reported at the Plymouth Street end of the entrance to the East Bridgewater Jr/Sr High School.

Investigating Officer Patrick O’Brien arrived at the scene of the accident, which was on the access road driveway of the high school property. The vehicle appeared to have struck the curbing along the high school driveway entrance and then to have spun, as it was facing the wrong direction. Officer O’Brien determined that the vehicle had traveled through the high school access road from Bedford Street and was close to exiting at the Plymouth Street end when the accident occurred.

The vehicle’s passenger side front and rear tires popped as a result of striking the curbing and damage was also done to the vehicle’s front bumper. The curbing was damaged within the high school access road property.

Officer O’Brien suspected after conducting Field Sobriety Tests, that the operator, Mr. Lee Shaw, age 40, #370 West Pond Street, East Bridgewater was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Mr. Shaw was arrested and charged with OUI Liquor, a Second Offense and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

Cash bail was set at $40.00. Mr Shaw was bailed later on Sunday evening and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning at Brockton District Court.
