East Bridgewater Police Seeking to Identify Man in Vehicle Who Approached Young Girl
EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Scott Allen reports that the East Bridgewater Police Department is seeking to identify and speak with a man who reportedly drove up to an 11-year-old girl walking home from her bus stop and asked her if she wanted a ride Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 3:20 p.m., police received a call from woman on Thayer Avenue who said that while she was watching her daughter get off the bus and walk a short distance to her house, a man in a silver sedan approached her daughter and asked her twice if she wanted a ride. The mother and daughter did not know who the man was.
The incident occurred on Thayer Avenue between West Union Street and Patriot Circle.
The mother began taking photos of the man’s vehicle and he turned into a nearby driveway to turn around and then fled from the area toward Matfield Street. The girl was able to make it safely to her mother without further incident.
The man is described as a black male in his 20s or 30s with a beard and a medium build, who was wearing a red hat. He was driving what is believed to be a silver 2016-2018 Honda Civic four-door sedan.
Officers searched the area for the vehicle but were unable to locate it. The East Bridgewater Police Department notified police in surrounding communities to be on the lookout for a man inside of a vehicle fitting the description given.
The East Bridgewater Police are releasing photos that were taken by the victim’s mother and are seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver and/or owner of the vehicle. If anyone has further information about this incident or witnessed any suspicious activity in the area of Thayer Avenue today, they are asked to call East Bridgewater Police at 508-378-7223.
