*Joint Release* East Bridgewater Police and Fire Departments Provide Update on Power Outages

EAST BRIDGEWATER — Police Chief Scott Allen and Fire Chief Timothy Harhen would like to remind residents that they should call National Grid at 800-465-1212 to report power outages in their home or neighborhood, as heavy winds are expected throughout East Bridgewater for several hours Friday evening.

East Bridgewater and many of the surrounding communities have been dealing with power outages since approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, due to strong winds and heavy rain hitting the area.

According to the National Weather Service, a wind advisory remains in effect for East Bridgewater and all of Plymouth County until 10 p.m. Friday, with possible wind gusts reaching 45 miles per hour.

“As heavy winds are expected for the next few hours, drivers should use caution if they must be on the roads, and should report power outages to National Grid immediately,” Chief Allen said.

“It is also important that residents should never touch or approach downed power lines,” Chief Harhen added.

According to National Grid’s Massachusetts Power Outage Map, more than 5,000 customers in the Bridgewater-East Bridgewater-Brockton area are without power, as of 6:30 p.m. Friday. No estimates are reported for when power could be restored. Customers should check the Report or Check an Outage page on the National Grid website for specific restoration information.
