East Bridgewater Police Department Swears In New Officer

EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Scott Allen is pleased to announce that a new East Bridgewater Police officer was sworn in during a ceremony yesterday.

On Monday, Oct. 29, Officer Ryan Hickey was sworn in by East Bridgewater Town Clerk Susan Gilpatrick at Town Hall. His wife, Kimberly Hickey, and his parents, Dennis and Michelle Hickey, were in attendance.

“Ryan comes to work for us with years of experience as an officer for the Massasoit Community College Police Department and other local departments,” Chief Allen said. “We welcome Officer Hickey to East Bridgewater and look forward to him contributing right away.”

Officer Hickey is a Middleborough resident and graduated from the Reserve/Intermittent Plymouth Police Academy in 2014.

He began his career in law enforcement in 2011 with an internship at the Hanson Police Department. He was an auxiliary police officer for the Whitman Police Department from 2014-2016.

Most recently, Officer Hickey was a Sergeant with the Massasoit Community College Police Department, where he had worked since 2014. He was also working as a Permanent Intermittent Officer with the Whitman Police Department.

Officer Hickey has several certifications in various fields and subjects including, weapons training, Taser instruction, police mountain bike training, first responder training, CPR certification and active shooter training.

He has already begun working on the day shift in the department’s Field Training Officer (FTO) program, shadowing a veteran training officer. Officer Hickey is scheduled to attend the next Full-time Police Officer Academy, slated for either Randolph or Plymouth in early 2019. Officer Hickey will work full-time while awaiting academy placement after his completion of the East Bridgewater FTO program.
