East Bridgewater Police Arrest and Charge Two Men with Gun, Drug Crimes
EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Scott Allen reports that the East Bridgewater Police Department arrested and charged two men with gun and drug crimes early Wednesday morning.
JUSTIN GRANT, AGE 26, OF MIDDLEBORO and JOSEPH VERNON, AGE 23, OF BRIDGEWATER were each charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm Without a License
- Possession of Ammunition Without a FID Card
- Improper Storage of a Firearm
- Possession to Distribute a Class D Drug (Marijuana)
- Possession of a Class D Drug (Marijuana)
- Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Law
At approximately 1:10 a.m. Wednesday, an East Bridgewater Police officer was on routine patrol in the area of Bedford Street when he came upon a white 2000 Ford Focus sedan.
A query of the Registry of Motor Vehicles database showed that the owner of the vehicle had an expired license. In addition, the vehicle’s light above the license plate was not working properly.
The officer pulled the vehicle over and spoke to the driver, later identified as GRANT. The vehicle belongs to a relative of GRANT’S.
While speaking to GRANT, another officer arrived on scene and observed a black gun box on the rear driver’s side seat of the car. The box was closed but did not appear to have a lock on it.
Through the subsequent investigation, it was determined by the officers that neither GRANT, nor his passenger, VERNON, had a license to carry a firearm.
In searching the box, officers located a black .380 Sig Sauer handgun and two fully loaded magazines.
Both GRANT and VERNON were then placed under arrest.
In searching the rest of the vehicle, officers located and seized several items typically associated with the sale of narcotics including:
- Approximately 17.85 ounces of marijuana
- A digital scale
- Plastic bags
- Multiple cell phones
- $8,701.05
GRANT and VERNON were expected to be arraigned Wednesday at Brockton District Court.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
