EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Paul O’Brien reports that the East Bridgewater Police Department arrested a Brockton man and a juvenile on multiple firearm charges last week following a motor vehicle stop.
DAWSON METELLUS, AGE 19, of BROCKTON, along with a JUVENILE, AGE 16, were arrested and charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm Without FID Card
- Possession of Ammunition Without FID Card
- Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm With Defaced Serial Number
- Carrying a Firearm Without FID Card
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without FID Card
The JUVENILE was also charged with:
- Failure to Stop for Police
- Speeding
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
While on patrol on Thursday, Nov. 10, East Bridgewater Police Sgt. John Smith observed a motor vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on North Bedford Street. Sgt. Smith activated his cruiser’s emergency lights and attempted to initiate a stop of the vehicle. The vehicle then turned into the gas station on North Bedford Street at a high rate of speed and continued around to the north side of the building. There were no other vehicles in the area or in the parking lot of the gas station at the time.
Additional officers arrived on scene, including East Bridgewater K-9 Officer Joshua DeJesus and K-9 Thor. Officers initiated a standard high-risk stop of the vehicle, and METELLUS, a JUVENILE, and a third occupant of the vehicle were detained for questioning.
As part of their subsequent on-scene investigation, officers located a loaded 9mm firearm near the wood line where the vehicle had turned around in the parking lot. The firearm had a defaced serial number. At this time METELLUS was placed under arrest by East Bridgewater Police without incident.
The JUVENILE was also placed under arrested and subsequently released to their parents.
Bridgewater Police K-9 Officer Christopher Rondeau and K-9 Edo responded to the scene to assist, as did officers from the Whitman Police Department.
“This stop and on-scene investigation resulted in terrific cooperation between multiple departments, and we want to especially commend the response of Officer DeJesus and K-9 Thor, as well as Bridgewater Officer Rondeau and K-9 Edo, for their work in locating the firearm which is no longer on the streets of our community,” Chief O’Brien said.”
METELLUS was arraigned on Monday, Nov. 14, in Brockton District Court and released on $2,500 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 9, 2023.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
