EAST BRIDGEWATER — Deputy Chief Michael Jenkins reports that the East Bridgewater Police Department located a stolen vehicle and “ghost gun” early this morning.
On Wednesday, April 5 at approximately 2:45 a.m., an East Bridgewater Police officer observed a tan-colored Nissan Altima in the area of 153 Bedford St. make an abrupt turn into a parking lot.
Officers conducted a query of the vehicle’s registration and discovered that the vehicle had recently been reported stolen out of Brockton.
Officers approached the vehicle, which had been parked in the back of the lot, and found it to be unoccupied. Officers subsequently heard noises coming from the nearby wooded area behind 153 Bedford St. They requested assistance from an East Bridgewater K-9 Unit, as well as officers from West Bridgewater and Bridgewater, and the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department BCI unit to establish a perimeter and attempt to track the vehicle’s occupants.
During their search of the wooded area, K-9 Officer Joshua DeJesus and K-9 Thor located a firearm buried within the brush. The firearm did not have a serial number and is believed to be what is referred to as a “ghost gun.” A ghost gun is a firearm where parts of a gun are purchased separately and assembled together. Once completed, the firearm needs to be registered and have a serial number stamped on it in order for it to be possessed legally.
Officers were unable to locate the vehicle’s occupants during their search. Police believe four suspects fled from the vehicle. No descriptions of the suspects are available at this time.
The incident remains under active investigation. Anyone who may have information is asked to call the East Bridgewater Police Department at 508-378-7223.
