EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Michael Jenkins is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael McLaughlin, a 27-year department veteran, to deputy chief.
McLaughlin’s appointment was effective Oct. 1. He will be officially sworn into the position on Oct. 16.
Deputy Chief McLaughlin has served with the East Bridgewater Police Department since 1996 when he joined as a permanent intermittent police officer. He became a full-time officer in 1997. He has held the rank of sergeant for the past 19 years — 17-and-a-half years as patrol sergeant and one-and-a-half years as the administrative sergeant.
He has served as an instructor for firearms, use of force and Tasers, and has been the department’s evidence officer, DARE officer, child passenger safety officer and Criminal Justice Information Services representative/trainer. He is currently the department’s accreditation manager.
Deputy Chief McLaughlin has additionally completed research for new department programs, written policies and procedures, completed grant applications and implemented training. He is a certified instructor for ALICE active shooter training, Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training and Stop the Bleed training.
He was previously assigned to the Satucket Regional Tactical Team and Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) SWAT.

Deputy Chief McLaughlin holds a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement from Western New England College and an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Massasoit Community College. He is currently enrolled in a master’s program in criminal justice with California Coast University.
