EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Michael Jenkins is pleased to announce that the East Bridgewater Police Department has been awarded $21,000 in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration funds through the Massachusetts Office of Grants and Research.
The grant funding will support the East Bridgwater Police Department’s efforts to improve roadway safety and address local traffic-related enforcement and education initiatives.
The state’s Municipal Road Safety Program is designed to give municipal police departments flexible resources to address local traffic-safety issues through enforcement, equipment purchases and outreach strategies.
The program also encourages departments to use local crash data and traffic-safety trends to identify problem areas and develop targeted enforcement and education initiatives.
The maximum award for each police department is determined by each municipality’s population. The Massachusetts Office of Grants and Research made approximately $5 million in federal funding available through the program.
Chief Jenkins plans to use the funds to support the department’s traffic enforcement efforts, along with roadway safety education initiatives. The grant provides dedicated funding for these efforts, allowing the department to address traffic-safety concerns without diverting resources from other public safety priorities.
“Funding from the Municipal Road Safety Program will be very helpful for us as we strive to keep East Bridgewater’s streets safe for motorists, passengers and pedestrians,” said Chief Jenkins. “We deeply appreciate the financial assistance we receive from our state and federal partners, providing us with a boost of dedicated funding that will help us continue our efforts to improve roadway safety throughout our community.”
